I wasn't in this hand earlier in the day, but I thought I'd post it just for fun. This was the most spectacularly stupid play I've seen in a long, long time.

Minor skirmishing before the flop.

Flop is [As] [Qs] [Ts]

BB bets. EP raises. LP pushes all in. BB calls all in. EP calls.

Turn is a blank.

River is a [4s].

EP has A Q.
LP has A T.
BB has 88, and the only spade.

The table exploded! The whole place went ballistic. It was chaos for awhile. We ragged him so bad he finally left. "I had a feeling," he said. I said, "Gee, I had a feeling that supermodel would say Yes when I asked if she'd have sex with me."

He said he had won a lot of money lately, playing this way. Yeah, right!

CJ--who was glad he wasn't in the hand

Nice one to observe but a real pain in the *** if you have the AQ.

I dont know how the betting went CJ but with AQJ on the board the 8s starts to look decently strong, you didnt post the betting but what the hell were the other two doing still in the hand with two pair with 4 spades on the board, that seems like a pretty weak play to me too. I seems to me that the chances of the 8sp holding up on that board is a lot more likely than two pair making a boat on the river.

I think the absolutely biggest mistakes in that hand was made post river when you and the others berated him. That's the dumbest move possible and extremely -EV. Your correct move would have been to either defend him diplomatically ("He was getting great odds to call" or "You should always go with your instincts") or not say anything.

I know, Stoneburg, and I'm really ashamed of myself. I don't ordinarily do this, and have been known to take others to task for it. Unfortunately, stupidity can be contagious, and this was a particularly virulent strain. I need to get my booster shots updated, so I will be immune. You're right, and I'm going to take the vow not to do it again.
