Serious discipline problems...

Postby AlexMR » Sun Aug 28, 2005 12:01 am

Well, this bad un is greater than what I can actually handle. I cant remember the previous time I was tilting. Tonight I am. I am trying to bluff people out, in good scenarios but they dont seem to care and call huge bets with two overcards on board.

I played 1200hands today and never hit a set. This has become routine now. Now the bad run has a new face: it used to be outdrawn after outdrawn but now it s simply no hands. NOTHING. I am getting a piece of the flop only 14% of times (in the last 600 hands I have been counting them). That has finally got to my game and I am playing awful.

I guess it s too hard to remain solid when you are only playing 12% of hands (and thats because I am playing too many marginal hands out of desperation) , WtSD 12% and W$SD is 22%. I dont know if it is because of those numbers but it seems that everyone is trying to push me out.

Today I managed to win 10bucks in these 1200hands. I dont know how, since the best hand I showed was trips 6 with 8kicker

I have something to do tommorrow. I think I ll take a break for a couple days.

A break sounds like a good idea. There's nothing you can do about not hitting cards except wait for things to improve - and they will. Playing micro stakes and raising every 2nd hand can help release some tension too, and it's great fun especially if you win :P

Hope things get better for you Alex, 1200 hands without a set is brutal.

Alex... I'm with you on the break thing... So far today, I've played 600+ hands, have actually hit 3 or 4 trips... AND LOST ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!!! I also lost 4 of 5 AAs and KKs... It's gettin frickin ridiculous...

Anyways, as long as you know you're a good player, just take a day or two off and come back kickin ass...

yeah taking a break is a great idea

i have this superstition... well one of many, where i think if i avoid playing poker for a while the "cold cards time window" will pass and i'll be dealt my normal hands

makes sense right?

Alex was that u last nite on Prima .25/.50? If it was, thats two nights in a row I have played against you. Empire the night before I was wreck72 there.
My PT stats for you:
VP&IP = 17.17%
PFR = 3.03%
WTSD = 25%
W$SD = 100%
HANDS = 99

I've only seen you showdown three hands AJo,A9o,K9o and they were all from the blinds.

I'd like to hear the experts opinion on these numbers its only 99 hands but seems pretty weak tight. IF that was you last night let me know what your thoughts were on this hand.

** Game ID 475150473 starting - 2005-08-28 01:10:45
** Catch Me [Hold 'em] (0.25|0.50 No Limit - Cash Game) Real Money

- Yoggi sitting in seat 1 with $109.20 [Dealer]
- sypox sitting in seat 2 with $62.68
- wreck27 sitting in seat 3 with $79.75
- Lunket sitting in seat 4 with $26.00
- WhiskyOBeer sitting in seat 5 with $58.14
- AlexMR sitting in seat 6 with $55.55
- smsab sitting in seat 7 with $47.28
- Sethug sitting in seat 8 with $29.50
- SARstunt101 sitting in seat 9 with $42.68
- scotttta sitting in seat 10 with $31.50

sypox posted the small blind - $0.25
wreck27 posted the big blind - $0.50
** Dealing card to wreck27: 4 of Spades, 4 of Diamonds
Lunket folded
WhiskyOBeer called - $0.50
AlexMR raised - $2.50
smsab folded
Sethug folded
SARstunt101 folded
scotttta folded
Yoggi folded
sypox folded
wreck27 called - $2.50 (About 5% of the stack so BTP says I gotta call)
WhiskyOBeer folded

** Dealing the flop: 6 of Diamonds, 10 of Spades, 4 of Hearts
wreck27 checked (Checked because even if you're BTP I gotta make something..lol)
AlexMR bet - $4.00 (Just as I figured big overpair)
wreck27 raised - $8.00 (OK Alex I got paid this is to let you know I've got the best hand)
AlexMR raised - $12.00 (Hmmm maybe I dont)
wreck27 called - $12.00

** Dealing the turn: 5 of Hearts
wreck27 checked
AlexMR bet - $15.00 (Thats 3/4 pot after almost 3xPot previously seems a bit weak. Trap?)
wreck27 went all-in - $65.75 (I still think I have the best hand based on preflop bet and I want to end it here with two hearts on board in case your bluffing AhKh or worse you make your set on river)
AlexMR folded
wreck27 wins $107.55 from the main pot

If this was you Alex I showed my set after the fold. I think you had a big overpair. I'd be hypocritical if I told you how to play this hand because I also have trouble spotting sets. Not trying to single you out or anything like that just hoping replies to this can help yours and my game. Good Luck when you came back from your break.

I wouldnt have any trouble at all spotting THIS set. A min check raise in a raised pot is almost ALWAYS a set. No way I would reraise the flop. I would fold most times even with AA. Every time I havent, I wished I had.

I definitely check the turn.... after I get min raised and re-raised and still called with an overpair. An opponent has to be making some pretty consistent muppet moves to consider betting.

Thanks for all the replies all,

Wreck,

that was me on Prima. as I said before, my numbers are on the WT side, but if you look at the aggression numbers they are actually very high.

As you though, I was on KK on that hand and when you min raised me, i was abut to break something here. I KNEW you had hit a set or two pair and, in both cases, I was behind. I dont know if you remember the hand but I instantly folded when you pushed. I could have saved a lot. But I wanted to do something with my weak tight play (which is basically because I cant get a piece of the flop or my big PF hands get outdrawn a lot) or image. I played that hand that way basically out of frustration.

I am thinking about moving back down until I am in a better mind set. The problem with that is that I m not losing actually. In the past 15K hands or so I am at around 0.9PTBB/100 which sucks, but I know I must be doing something OK if I am not losing on this bad run.

lMy problem is not being weak tight, is calling too much and going to expensive showdowns with weak hands. i just hope this losing streak made me a little bit more WT, because that is exactly what I need at this point.

Something else, I feel like playing!! At least I am finishing a reload at expekt and if this continues I will stand up. I will try a new strategy that could help me deal with all this: I won play for more than 2 hours in a row. Ater that point I start getting anxious.

Thanks for the feedback!

Alex, I had one of your days, this afternoon. I got nothing all day. I made 3 sets on one table and won, .80 .80 and 1.45. I had AK twice, both times on the button, and won the blinds. Never had AA, KK, QQ. JJ once, and had a flop of AKx. I bled off $34 a little at a time. I just kept chanting ALEX, ALEX, ALEX. :x

We'll all hang together or surely we'll all hang separately.
