I hit my set in the BB against an UTG raiser when the flop comes A,7,5. We get it all in on the turn and I lose to a set of A's. Just wondering how much you should consider AA when a preflop raiser pushes a flop with an Ace. I was obviously hoping for AK, but when the raiser bets out on the flop and turn, showing no fear of the A is there any other option beside pushing my set.
I realize this is just a bad beat, but it started me thinking about how much to consider AA when I finally hit a set.

There are very few times that I will lay down a set. With a board of A 7 5....there is no time I lay down a set. That is what there are bankrolls for.

There is a quote on here somewhere saying " if you go broke losing set over set you can wear it like a badge of honor". Set over set is so rare that unless I have some kind of read/tell that I know they have AA then I would never fold this.

Speaking of set over set...... lately I seem to be getting outflushed. Limp in with 10 J suited nail 2 suits and a backdoor straight.... turn comes with the flush card and it's all over. I know I"ve gone broke with set over set.... but how often do you get outflushed?

Just for interest's sake.
I like playing sets this way sometimes, calling the flop and leading out on the turn.

NL100. No solid reads, but UTG seems a bit wonky. I have $140, UTG has $100.

UTG minraises to $2. Folds to me and I call in the SB with 22.

Flop 862 rainbow. Pot $5.
I check, UTG bets $3, I call.

Turn 3s, now two spades. Pot $11.
I lead for $11, he calls.

River As, now three spades. Pot $33.
I bet $15, he minraises to $30, I call.

He has AA.

So close to pushing the river, but I had a nibbling feeling he was playing a drawing hand with a couple spades.

Well, I've advocated sometimes laying down bottom set (without a plausible straight or flush showing, which I do think can be a legitimate reason to slow down seriously and/or fold it) in unraised pots, I think in a raised pot you have to see to get it all in. You'll be up against AK way more often than AA here, and AK is going to have major trouble laying down.
