11 is doing great! As is 12.

You'll have to think of it in a different way to beat those answers...
It takes a diff. way of thinking to take the leap from 11 to 12...

Tep. has gotten 12.

Xaston has gotten 14 correctly...which is super, but can still be bettered...it'll take yet a diff. way of thinking to beat 14 too.

Yes, you can cut in any direction, so long as it is a straight cut...

Big Hint:
As the Old Betsy cow around the barn solution was simple, so is this one.

What sort of cake is it? And what is Ms. Welch wearing?

I can get to 12 pretty easily.

14 or better? Going to take some thought...

Wait! I think I can do more... firing up the PM screen. ;)

Here's a clue, it's more than 14 pieces and everyone will get to have icing on their piece

The pieces aren't all the same size once you're over 12 pieces, are they?

I just figured out 14...

I finally got it, I'm pretty sure. It is too easy. Sheesh I feel stupid for not figuring it out earlier.
