LAG play -- where to start

Postby Hofstra » Tue Aug 23, 2005 3:01 pm

I'm interested in learning to play a more LAG style. There are several reasons for this, but the most important are that I think it will broaden and deepen my skills, and also that it would be a good challenge. Can some of the experienced LAGs on the forum give me some idea of where to start? My regular game is the $50 and the $100 NL on UB.
Is there a good way to gradually change from TAG to LAG without losing tens of buyins along the way, say by incorporating certain plays one by one? Or do I have to take a deep breath and change all at once?
I'm willing to set aside a certain number of buyins for the purpose of my education here, but would like to have a good idea in advance what to expect.

Thanks in advance, Pieter

The good LAG's that I've played against all have one thing in common: They're not afraid to fold to a raise. Just about every single time. If they don't fold to a raise, they've got something close to the nuts.

Otherwise, LAG play is self-evident. Just about any 2 cards are worth a limp. If they're the same suit or close enough to make a straight, they're wroth calling a moderate raise.

If you're in on the flop and there's no bet yet, bet 3/4 to full pot and go from there.

Don't put in more than your normal bet or raise if you have a great hand. Be consistent with your bets until someone plays back at you when you've got a hand. Then punish them.
