Betting when an overcard flops

Postby Tepshen73 » Mon Aug 22, 2005 9:37 am

Here a hand I played recently and I have found myself doing it more and more. I am wondering if this has longterm EV+ or am I going to regret using this as I advance in my poker hobby. I curretnly play .05/.10.

I mainly do this to see where I am on the flop in order to make my decision making easier, because I figure if someone has an A with a weak kicker they may fold or if they call I get a look at another card and check the turn and fold if they raise me, or I could catch a card that helps me.

PS with the smaller pocket pairs I am far more cautious I try and do this only with JJ,QQ or KK. With the smaller pocket pairs I follow Stoneburgs advice and "No set,No bet"

I don't think its a bad play. I'd be more concerned about you min raising pf with KK. You'll get people calling with A rag .

Usually I raise 4 of 5x the Big Blind with the premium starting hands, but no one at this table had been calling me so I was trying to get people to get in with me.

“The real things to know is that folks will stand to lose more than they will to win. That’s the most important percentage there is. I mean, if they lose, they’re willin’ to lose everything. If they win, they’re usually satisfied to win enough to pay for dinner and a show. The best gamblers know that.” - Pug Pearson
