AA UTG

Postby odogg » Mon Aug 22, 2005 6:43 am

200 NL.

I have a 535 dollar stack and get dealt AA UTG. I decide to try and limp reraise on a very loose table. 3 people limp behind me and the small and big blind come along.

12 in the pot

Flop comes AQJ rainbow. While it was unfortunate the pot was unraised this is still a good flop. The small blind bets 2 dollars. BB just calls and I want to keep people in the hand. I call as does one other.

Pot is 20 dollars.

The turn is an offsuit 5 completing the rainbow.

The small blind now checks and the BB who is new to the table with a full 200 stack bets 10. I smooth call hoping the guy behind me and the small blind stay with me. They however both fold.

The river is a 3.

Pot is 40 dollars.

The BB now bets 25 dollars. What is your play? What do you put the BB on?

I don't agree with either of those two calls. There are way to many draws out there for you to allow people to see the next card so cheaply. Limping UTG with AA is fine as long as you are diciplined enough to lay it down when it doesn't get raised and there are 5 others in the pot.

Yes you hit top set on the flop and while you may be ahead at the moment, you can't possibly just call a $2 bet into a $12 pot. You have got to raise it up there and eliminate those that are on a draw. What if a 10 comes on the Turn? Or if a K comes on the turn? Are you going to be able to lay your set down then?

I don't think what the outcome was, or what the BB had is what is most important about this hand. I think the play on the flop and turn is what needs to be addressed.

You are a risky one. Nothing leaves a worst feeling in my stomach is when my aces get cracked. I can't imagine letting so many people hang around like that.

But to play along, I will guess he made top 2 pair?

Since Iceman's post a few days ago I have tried to start putting myself in Villians shoes. I honestly can't find one shread of sense to be made out of this play. I am the BB in this case and I literally had just sat down.

This was my very first hand of the table and got KT in an unraised pot.

Another thing if any remember a few weeks ago I discussed flopping the nuts. I have decided that I am going to rotate my play. Play the flopped nuts slow once and fast the next. It was a rainbow flop and I decided to play a bit passive. Once I confirmed I still had the nuts on the river I value betted for 25 only to get raised to 75 or so.

I type in chat "Do you have a set?" and go all in and he insta called.

Does anyone else make any comments in chat while in a hand to try and induce a call?

Can you beat 2 pair?

For example when you hold the nuts?

I think you are bluffing?
