5-6 Suited

Postby Zuccala » Wed Aug 17, 2005 8:03 pm

Hey guys I was against 4 players in an unraised pot with 56 of spades. The flop came Ac3s4s. I am in EP an it checked to LP who bet the pot. I checkrasied him ALL In after his bet. We were even stacks. I did spike a Js on the river to take him. Was this a good example of the aggressive poker I should be playing. I put him on a weak ace and I have 15 outs to the straight or flush.

I personally don't like playing small suited connectors from early position, but I guess it is ok to do sometimes. The push all in...not a horrible play, but it does depend on your opponent.

well that is definately one of your options...I myself would have called and made my move on the turn..a healthy check raise here....

I disagree with waiting here and I like your play.

What do you want to happen? Well, IMO, you want to take down the pot asap without a showdown or see your draw cheap. You are only behind a higher flush draw here so I like the check raise on the flop. The late position bettor could be betting the pot simply because it was checked to him. I'm guessing he had a decent hand though because he called your allin raise but the point being you DON'T want to wait till the turn to make your move. Your odds go down considerably on the turn when you miss your draw. You don't want to then commit the majority of your chips with a lower expectation to win the hand. WIth a OESFD I will play it like you did here and insure yourself you get the most folding equity possible when you make the bet and have the best odds to make your hand when your money goes in.

Not bad at all if you have the bankroll to take it. If you don't like variance, then better raise pot. You gotta be agressive with this hand imo.
