What's your river play here ?

Postby DaHitDogg » Tue Aug 16, 2005 8:21 pm

This was an interesting hand
- Full Tilt 1/2
- I start w/ $180 opponents have me covered
- MP1 is a semi-LAG (30 / 16 / 4)
- MP3 no read

*I'm dealt QsTs in the SB, 3 limpers to me and I complete, BB checks ($10)
*Flop is 9c 2d Jh
*I lead for $8, BB folds, MP1 calls, MP3 calls, rest fold ($34)
*Turn is the very sexy 8d
*I bet $28, MP1 calls, MP3 folds ($90)
*River is the 7d

MP1 is pretty aggressive so I'm torn b/w a value bet and inducing a bluff. Since I bet the whole way he may think I fear the 1 card straight and bluff. How should I play the river?

I would check it. If he doesn't have anything for that board (which is fairly likely) then he's not going to call a vlaue bet. by checking you give the oppertunity to bluff.

Also..if he does have the straight behind you..he will bet, allowing you to check raise and get his whole stack.

just my thoughts on it.

i'm all in. If i lose to the backdoor flush, I'll just add it to my list of things that have gone wrong recently.

Well that's great, I think I made the wrong play and still lost. I flat called fearing the backdoor flush. He showed QdTd for the backdoored flush off a free-roll.

Yep, I'm fine with the play - I think he would have made a similar bet w/ nothing. I didn't see the point in raising b/c there were only a few hands he would call w/ that I could beat.
