Postby iceman5 » Tue Aug 16, 2005 11:16 pm

$5/$10 at Full Tilt

I open raise to $40 in MP. Only the SB calls.

Pot is $90. The flop comes [6s][7d][Qh]. He checks and I bet $65. He calls.
Pot is $220. Turn [Js]. Check/check
Pot $220...River [Ac]. He checks and I bet $150. What do I have?

Pocket nines, I'd bet anything! Well...I mean not actual money, though...or any items of real value...

i see two possibilities:

1. AK or AQ....the smooth call worries you about him having a set so you're keeping the pot small without playing like a weakling.

2. AA or JJ....the smooth call convinces you he has a set and you know he'll raise the river.

edit: oh yeah...he checked the river. that kinda rules out him having a set. im an idiot.

I was thinking Jacks also, but then if he called the flop you'd think he might call a turn bet, unless you're hoping to induce a bluff on the river as you have position, I'll pick AK instead.

EDIT: if he had a set he'd have to bet on the river, he didn',t so it's worth a poke in the dark with any hand that beats a pair of queens (not set), the pot is fairly small so a bet need not be too big,

If ice had AK, what would be the point of posting the hand? Isn't it fairly routine? I think the point is that it does look a LOT like he had AK, so the river would be very tough to call with anything less than TPTK. Meanwhile, anything that beats TPTK, you'd expect the opponent to bet the river after ice's turn check. With JJ (or any other set) I'd really expect ice to put out some sort of bet on the turn. So I think he either has a missed draw (like kenny said) or a missed pocket pair.

Tightwad, this isn't something I normally say to men on the internet, but you have won me over!

I'm going for 67 suited.

Unless an answer is posted fairly soon I'll have gone through every possible hand combination.

AK is how it's played. The post flop bet looks like a continuation bet. When he called, ice had to be worried that the guy paired his Q. When it went check/check on the turn...that eliminated ice having AA or KK. No way would he slow down in that instance. For the guy to check the river as well, leads me to believe his opponent may have had something like 89. Since I doubt he'd post it if he had AK...I'm gonna say something like TT. He sensed weakness in his opponent and made the big bet on the river when the A hit.

this looks like standard 89, 45 or AK play... so its definitely not those.

you're letting your opponent draw for free on the turn so you're hand is definitely not strong, you are drawing as well

you sensed weakness on the river and took a stab

you could have any two cards! (89?)

I cant remeber Ice in a bigriver bluff ( 150 to 220) so I have to discard 8-9. The turn check tried to show weakness...but it gave even more draws.....but it was heads up, so you could take your chances.

I think you had QQ-JJ. The only problem with my thesis i s that Jack, that gives a lot of draws a chance at the river, and then you check :?:
