Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $.50 BB (9 handed)

SB ($16.20)
UTG ($49.55)
Hero ($48.50)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [9s], [Ad].
UTG calls $0.50, UTG+1 calls $0.50, 2 folds, MP3 calls $0.50, CO calls $0.50, Hero calls $0.50, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($3.50) [8s], [4s], [9c] (7 players)
SB bets $3.5, BB folds, UTG calls $3.50, UTG+1 folds, MP3 folds, CO folds, Hero calls $3.50.

Turn: ($14) [9h] (3 players)
SB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $10, SB folds, UTG raises to $44, putting me .50 shy of all-in.

pf in this spot, i will happily play marginal trash. on the flop, i am generally not keen on raising in these situations for various reasons. in retrospect, i should probably raise b/c sb is a short stack and utg looks like a draw.

so on the turn i love getting checked to in this spot b/c now i can bet and opponents might think i'm buying. be careful what you wish for...

I've been at the table for 1 orbit. I have one note on UTG, when he defended A3 in his bb to a 4.5x button raise after 1 mp limper. when i joined the table he had ~$30. it is exactly 2:1 to call.

decent call or easy fold?

I think that is an easy fold. Chances are he has pocket 8's or 4's and he just filled his boat. I also think you should have raised on the flop to see where you are. If he calls you have to give hime credit for at least 2 pair most likley a set.

You're giving up too much to fold here. You're getting 2:1 to call and with what I put him on it's a call. The SB made a pot sized bet and with possible flush/straight draws I don't see a set smooth calling here. He *might* have landed two pair but I think he's got a 9 with a so-so kicker enough here to make the call.

I like UTG's play. That's what I would advise doing on the flop. I like the flop raise to let me know where I am in the hand.

The way you played it (and I would call), you have to call a large bet and don't really know where you are in the hand.

in the hand, my thought process was basically:
- i discounted a boat b/c of the smooth call on that flop
- my hand is somewhat disguised
- he's going to show a naked 9 enough for me to call

after the hand, i went to go get some iced coffee. it cleared my head a bit, and i thought this became even more of a call b/c my hand totally looks like a flush draw trying to buy. why in the world would a boat come over the top so big when i'm probably drawing dead?

anyway, in the hand, i called after using probably my full time. river was the [Ac]!

but he had [Ah][As]!

just kidding, he had [9d][4d]. i thought opp played it very poorly. nevertheless, he should've gotten all my chips - easily my biggest suckout yet.
