On the subject of trying to bluff a calling station, here's why I will NEVER attempt it again.

Prima NL $100. I picked up a flush draw and a straight draw on the turn. UTG is the ultimate calling station. Saw flop % was around 80 over 100 hands, aggression factor was zilch. He literally NEVER raised - it was check-call, check-call all the way.



UTG ($93.20) limps, all fold to me, I ($107.70) limp from MP with [Jd], SB ($147.85) completes, BB ($155.48) checks.

Flop comes [Ad][Qc]. Pot is $4.

SB checks, BB bets $3.00, UTG calls, I call, SB folds.

Turn comes . Pot is $13.

BB checks, UTG checks, I bet $10, BB folds, UTG calls.

River comes . Pot is $33.

UTG checks, I check. (Normally, I would consider launching a bluff, but not against this CS.)

UTG shows [8h] and wins the pot.



If he can call that bet on the turn with three overcards, he can call anything. I should've checked the turn.

Good river check. I definitely struggle against CSs because I play 6-max where stealing pots is so important.

If you don't semi-bluff them your river bet is outrageous looking if you hit your hand. Consider it a pot builder that didn't work out when you were a favorite to win this hand, over cards to eights, straight and flush draws. If you can't bet a draw with half the deck hitting your hole cards then when can you bet a draw?

Betting the river unless you know him to be able to finally lay down after missing his 8, is a big mistake, but you hit the breaks. I play it about the same against a calling station with that many outs.

I definitely agree with checking the turn.

I check the turn when I don't pick up the diamond draw to go with the straight draw, but with that many extra outs I think 10 into 13 is very reasonable.
