King Kong Taken out

Postby Cardman » Fri Aug 12, 2005 7:42 am

sorry I do not have the hand converter at work (firewall) but I did have this in my email and wanted to share in my gloom

quick backgroun..guy on my right has been very aggo and has come over the top of me 2X where I have layed down 'waiting for a better spot', then that spot came along:

25NLHE Party:
Total number of players : 9
Seat 1:XXXXXXXXXX( $4.55)
Seat 2: XXXXXXXXXX( $23.75)
Seat 3: XXXXXXXXXX( $39.35)
Seat 4:XXXXXXXXXX( $9.85)
Seat 5: XXXXXXXXXX( $27.45)
Seat 7: XXXXXXXXXX ( $24.50)
Seat 8: HAWTDOGG ( $27.29)
Seat 9: KING KONG( $35.98)
Seat 10: XXXXXXXXXX( $17.45)
XXXXXXXXXX posts small blind (0.10)
XXXXXXXXXXposts big blind (0.25)
** Dealing down cards **
Dealt to KING KONG [ Ks, Kh ]
HAWTDOGG calls (0.25) HE IS OTG
KING KONG raises (1) to 1 I AM OTG+1
EVERYONE FOLDS
HAWTDOGG calls (0.75) HE CALLS
** Dealing Flop ** : [ 3s, 4d, 5d ]
HAWTDOGG checks.
KING KONG bets (1)
HAWTDOGG raises (6) to 6

OK, so he chk raises me big. I know there is the possible straight and flush draw and my bet was weak but I planned on making my move on 4th st. Also, he has already pushed me out 2X and I was making a stand. My first impression/feeling was that he wanted me out right then and was making a move with some type of draw!

KING KONG raises (33.98) to 34.98 ALL IN OVER THE TOP

I just know he is on a draw and will happily take the pot down right now.....or give him improper odds knowing that I will win in the long run.....

HAWTDOGG calls (20.29)
HAWTDOGG is all-In.
** Dealing Turn ** : [ 2c ]
** Dealing River ** : [ 9h ]

HAWTDOGG balance $52.23, bet $27.29, collected $52.23, net +$24.94 [ 3d 2h ] [ two pairs)
KING KONG balance $8.69, bet $35.98, collected $8.69, lost -$27.29 [ Ks Kh ]

OK, so to recap, he limps with 32o, calls my raise, then chk raises me with low pair and then calls my over the top reraise and was 'rewarded' with one of his 5 outs...

That one was tough and he immediately left the table....with his cover blown......

One thing to realize is given your sack he had pot odds to call with 32os. He proved it by taking your $27 stack for a $1 investment!. It is not a play I would make but I have seen accomplished players do the same thing when stacks are deep and they notice you only raise on high cards or high pairs.

Once the flop hits he has a 45% chance to beat your KK and if he has you on something like AK, he is 3 - 1 to win!!! As you study his play you will see it is not as crazy as you might believe! Be careful with straight type flops when you have an over pair and respect large bets.

Thanks Mark, you have hit the nail on the head as far as where my new venture into cash NL games could use some improvement....I am winning (5BB/100 over the last 2000) but feel I should be winning a lot more at this level!

I consistently slowly build my stack only to double up some peopl on the way and have to do it all over again....I KNOW that is somewhat the nature of the beast..

But in this hand, I was taking my prior encounters with this player into account as well.....initially I did not see his str8 draw as well and hence overreacted.....just frustrating because I lost of course!!!

So in short, how can I limit doubling up people without toning down the agression? I know intincts will come with experience but is there some things I should keep in mind?
