AA vs 52s

Postby AlamedaMike » Thu Aug 11, 2005 7:58 pm

I know, I know, the poker goddess is punshing me for playing bad cards.

I was dealt [5h] [2h] LP and limped. I mistakingly called a re-raise of $8 from the Button.

The flop was sweet.

[5d] [Kh] [5s] - nice for me unless he has KK.

The BB checks and the pot has $34 and I go all in since I only have $67 left.

The preflop raiser Galaxy 500 calls all in with his [Ad] [Ac]. I guess he though I was dumb as a door nail and had something like AK.

Well, you know the story - of course and [Ah] hits the turn.

Now he is happy and calling me a idiot and saying that is what I get for playing [5h] [2h].

I agree that I derserve to lose the hand, but not after I have flopped trips. I was taking a chance that he did not have Kings on the flop.

He called $67 to win $165 with a 9% chance to win. I guess he did not know that I had a 5, huh.

If I had bet, say $20 he would have raised anyway.

Of course, I could check raise him or check call the flop.

Any way you go I am all in with this hand. Just one of those days where I take 3 or 4 bad beats or suck outs after the flop.

I guess I could just stay out of the pots until I have the nuts but where is the fun in that?

I agree that it is taking a risk playing small suited connectors and one gappers. The real risk is that you miss your hand and have to throw away the investment.

When I hit one of these hands I usually make a nice profit.

Here, I was 10% to lose after the flop. I will take those odds any day. Yes, the better hand preflop did have some outs.

Thanks for your advice. I am not sure if playing these hand is a good idea.

Top 5 losing hands yesterday were.

44 flopped a set and lost to a bigger set = -$125
52 flopped trips = - $81
85 flopped a st8 and lost to a flush = -$58
JJ lost to ATo = -$50 (allin)
99 lost to 86o = -$35

Top 5 winning hands.

A3s - flopped the nuts = $125
98s - turned a str8 = $81
AA - held up = $79
A8s - turned a 2pr = $65
88 - held up = $39

If I had only played the top ten hands then -

I would have lost with

JJ lost to ATo = -$50 (allin) (dumb play by me)
99 lost to 86o = -$35
AKo = -1,
AQ = -10

and won with

AA - held up = $79
88 - held up = $39
AKs = $17
TT = $18

Mike,

I wish I could do that but I would be so bored that I might throw away all my money after two hours. I did that when I was playing limit 1/2 and finished a few K hands with 1.89BB/100 but the variance was huge anyway. I am sure you will get to the + side playing top ten hands but that is just too boring!

I so wanted to play this hand after the flop.

Limping EP with this hand was a mistake. :oops: I'm bad. :oops:

But, the flop was great IMO.

Calling the turn raise was okay since any spade is good. The pot odds are there. All I need is 5:1 which I have. 2 cards to the true nuts.

If I get my straight or flush on the turn I am subject to redraws on the river. The set of 4's have 10 outs (8 really). And the 2 pair guy has 4 outs.

I missed the Turn and decided it was no longer worth it.

I lost $32 on this hand but it could have been a huge winner.

Who would have folded the Flop?
