Flopping a set according to SS1

Postby Tepshen73 » Wed Aug 10, 2005 8:33 am

I was playing a hand last night when this hand happened. After I won the loser procedded to tell me that I should read SS1 learn to play poker. Well we all know I am not that great at poker but I do not think I made a bad play here. May not have been optimal play but not bad. He was mentioning something about when someone bets less that 10% of your stack you have to call hoping to hit your set. You still only have an 8.4% cjance of hitting your set with two cards to come and I will take my aces against that any day.

Now granted I should have raised before the flop but with as many times I have had AK lose me money lately I have gotten gun shy with it. And in case you can not see it the missing card is an ace of diamonds I can never see them with I do a hand conversion.

The guy's minraise on the turn told you he had the 9. You got lucky.

And, um, this guy didn't have a pair. He had 94. WTF does he think he's talking about?

You can call for less than 10% of your stack PREFLOP with a pair, not ON THE FLOP with second pair only. I'm thinking the guy doesn't know how to read all that well....

Couple of thoughts. First, he didn't have a set. A set is three of a kind made with a pocket pair. Sets can break big pairs because the are hard to see.

Second, I don't like your turn play. After the 9 pairs and you are getting reraised, I'm not getting all-in. I'm probably slowing down. You're out of position too. Yuck.

I kow I should not have called is all in but with my horrible run lately I was on a serious tilt. and was determined not to lose with AK yet again. I got lucky and hope not to do the same in the future.

I don't understand how he can raise 71% but only play 70%?

Nice play. Yes this is leading into the raiser.

I would have pushed in though after he reraises your intial bet.

FIrst Hand: Call the turn minraise and fold to a River bet if you don't improve. He clearly had the 9. And he's a moron so get him on your friends list and play with him as much as you can. It's only a matter of time before he busts out and goes away and you deserve a good chunk of his coin.

Second Hand: Nicely done, though taking forever to get all the coin in on the turn frustrates my lack of patience. I'm pretty sure he has AK or AQ based on his PF action and his flop re-raise. He's not folding. Just put him in after he re-raises you the first time and be done with it. If he has Aces, well, set-over-set is Poker. ;)
