3-way action 200nl, tough call?

Postby CocaCola » Thu Aug 11, 2005 12:14 am

The converter is not working correctly for me, the bets and pots are not showing up

Preflop: Hero is CO with [2c], [2s].
utg limps, utg+1 limps, i limp, button raises to 8, everyone calls, 4 to the flop

ok somebody has a big over pair, im gonna get paid if i make a set

Flop: [8s], [2d], [Jc] (4 players)$24
utg check, utg+1 check, i bet 15, button and both others call

great, i hit a set. but why is everyone calling?

Turn: [8d] (4 players)$84
utg checks, utg+1 bets 60, i call, button moves in for 117, utg folds, utg+1 calls, i fold

ok i take it button has an over pair, utg+1 is vpip53, but i find him to be a good player slowly building his stack, rarely taking chances. i cant put him on any hand other than JJ given the preflop action, ive never folded a boat before but theres a first time i guess- i really wish i hadn't

River: [4h] (2 players)$337

Final Pot: $337

Results in white below:
MP1 has 8c 9c (three of a kind, eights).
Button has Jd 6d (two pair, jacks and eights).

was this a good fold or a weak fold?

No way I fold a boat there. Too many times people are going to flip over just what the villans flipped over for me to ever fold that boat. These are the hands I love.

if utg+1 is vpip 53%, then you can safely put an 8 in his range of hands, which makes this an easy call. also notice the diamond draw which might be encouraging ppl to gamble.

remember a set is super disguised...don't be intimidated by the action when there are a wide range of possible hands you beat.

Ugh!

You really need to be smelling blood on this hand rather than even thinking about folding. JJ without a raise would be very unusual for EP imo. The only person I'd think about having JJ would be the raiser, but with the set, I'd pay him off if he had it.

This is just not the kind of hand where you should be thinking about folding. You need to be thinking here about the best way to get at least 1 stack in the middle. If they take it down, so be it, but more often than not, they won't.

Go broke on set over set every time. Just do it. You'll more than make up for it by taking down huge pots against two pair, or your boat over trips, etc.

The only exception I can imagine is if you have a baby pair, someone raises pretty big preflop, and then board comes AKQ. If they check and then on the turn you catch your set, it's fine to fold to strong action.

Otherwise, GO BROKE baby. Treat going broke with set over set as a badge of honor.

yes it was a horrible fold, i'll never fold a boat again... i had about 120 bucks left after i called off 60. i really thought i was saving 120, and i was tilting slightly from previous hands which probably affected me

thx all for assuring me this was a horrible play

After reading this hand, I feel like a piece of me just died. I have an emptiness in my heart that I cant explain.
