Started on limit playing $0.50/$1 and moved up to $1/2. Lost a bit so started on $25NL and won quite a bit. For reasons unknown decided to give limit another try playing $1/$2, then $2/$4 and finally $3/$6. Lost a bit again and vowed never to go back.

Played $50NL and have just graduated to $100NL.

I agree with the thoughts about limit being a good foundation to start learning poker. I think it does help with the maths but also limit the number of variables in making a choice of play plus you cannot make a gigantic mistake like you can in NL. I know my reasons for moving came from the restrictions limit offers but it was the background I had learnt that made me able to appreciate what was going on in NL.

I have also been playing tournaments as and when, both live and online but I do those more for fun or a break rather than a serious money making proposition.

I started off playing a bunch of mixed games with my friends for a while and it was mostly spread limit but we didnt really know it at the time (before each hand we'd say something like max bet is .40). Then one of my friends started watching hold em on TV and always wanted to play that on his deal, and since you didnt draw and it had no wilds, I clearly thought it was a boring no skill game, but I beat this kid in everything and I didnt want this to be any different. I bought a limit hold em book and started playing limit online shortly thereafter. I play NL mostly live with friends since they don't like limit, but online I've really only dabbled in NL, I just like limit more.
