3 400NL laydowns

Postby Smokin'Al » Sun Jul 31, 2005 8:18 am

Not sure if my hand reading was way off in these three hands.

At the time, I was playing about 30/10 on 2 tables mostly comprised of the same regulars. These stats are slightly misleading as the 10% PFR is mostly open-raising in LP with anything, and the 30% from lots of calling loose raisers with position. Post flop I'd been as aggressive as ever, but had been involved in no significant pots. So I probably don't look that LAGgy if anyone's paying attention.

OK, onto some poker...

Hand #1

Limp in EP w [6s][7s], along with several others.

Flop [Td][6h][7d], utg (>$400) checks, I lead for $18 into $20 pot. LP limper min raises, utg cold calls. I decide to play a stop-and-go and call.
Turn [5c]. UTG checks, I bet $70. LP thinks and folds. UTG now raises to $175. I fold

LP (who is a bit of knob) types "you should have checked goofball". EP seems solid (14/7/3).

Thoughts on my line?

Hand #2

A bit later. Haven't played any other "big" hands. This and hand #3 occur simultaneously.

Villain here is LP from previous hand (24/6/3). I have $400, he has me covered. He limps, I raise to $18 from L/MP with [Ah][Qd]. BB (super tight regular rock, 12/1/1) calls, and villain calls.

Flop [8h][7s][Jc]. Checked round.
Turn [Qc]. BB checks, villain leads for $12 into $56 pot. I raise to $45 (I've not raised any turns so far). Villain calls.
River [6s]. Villain leads for $100 into $165 fold. I've not seen him bluff in ~200 hands.

OK, I've butchered this pot so far ... I fold?! Ugh

Hand #3

At the same time as Hand #2

OKish not-too-aggressive EP (24/8/2, has my $400 covered) raises to $12, I call from LP with [Kd][Jd].

Flop [Kc][3d][3s]. EP bets $25 into $30 pot, I call.
Turn [3h]. Check check.
River [Qh] EP goes all in ($363) into $80 pot. I fold ...

#1 I agree with LP. I would have checked the turn. UTG's cold call is very scary and you are probably drawing dead. The fold is good.

#2 Dangerous board. Your play looks like a very strong hand: check flop, raise turn. Villain doesnt care. Good fold.

#3 The last 3 times I called a pot bet / overbet on a board like this on river, I have been shown quads. You are also behind to QQ and KK. Why didnt you bet the turn?

(I see you are playing right now. I think I will join one of your tables and outplay you  . I have a new screen name)

Hand #1) Im not sure I like your line. LP min raised you which is scary and UTG cold called that min raise which is terrifying. I wouldve checked the turn. You have to fold to that check raise.

Hand #2) Bet the flop! After checking the flop, i think I might just call that turn bet and keep the pot small. Either that, or make a real raise. If he calls a real raise and leads the river, you can fold with much more confidence.

Hand #3) I dont call raises with KJ suited or not. Why didnt you bet the turn?
