Q9 preflop by opponent - genius or stupid?

Postby tetsuo » Thu Jul 28, 2005 6:21 pm

I should have folded to the reraise on the turn, surely?

I mean, it must have been clear as a bell I had AA or KK, so I'm sure I was very foolish to continue here.

The biggest mistake was just not thinking what HE might have had properly.. I think I do sometimes get married blindly to big hands.. Dammit! It seems such a clear fold in retrospect..

I surely didn't expect Q9s though..

Genuis or stupidity on his part, preflop?

Mjeh. I mean really, almost 20% of your stacks went in when you had the nuts and he had junk. You could chose to slowplay that flop but since the pot is so big you're better off trying to take it down immediatly. Once you bet pot-sized, you're committed. The only thing I would have done differently is re-raise on the flop to get the last cents in so I don't have to care about that. I expect to see AQ and KK a lot of the time here... hell of a lot more often than Q9s. I think your opponent is a muppet and I hope you robbed him later.

Maybe someone can fold AA to a chack-miniraise in that situation, but that someone sure isn't me.

Did it not let you push preflop because of the all in? If not, that's a damn good flop for AA and nothing wrong with losing it on that.

Tetsuo,

You have been posting some really bad beats. Sorry about that. if it wasnt preflop I would have probably psuh the flop with all that money on the pot already.

Q9? he is retarded for sure.

Beats.. Yes, I've suffered quite a few miracle cards. I'm not sure exactly when that started to affect my play by making me slip into tilt, but I think looking back on it, it definitely happened and I didn't realize until it was a little too late.

Mind you, I quit playing after the Q9 hand. It was just too much to take in! I was utterly shocked!

All in preflop when you are reraised to trap his dead money in the pot with out him seeing a flop. If he still wants to call off his stack with Q9 there isn't much you can do. No reason to get cute preflop he has called two reraises time to slam it all in, because I wouldn't want to have to fold a three suited paired scary flop to this muppet, and more so the pot is now more than you will normally get out an AA.

Think about switching to a site that lets you push preflop after any raise! Prima does. :)

At the $20 tables, if I see someone sitting with $2.25 or something, I sometimes raise to $2 with AA. Some of the time the small stack will push, and then I can push it all in if anybody else calls. Good times. :)
