QQ, weak bet on A-high flop, sandbagged on turn

Postby tetsuo » Thu Jul 28, 2005 7:05 pm

I guess I should've bet the full pot on the flop here to see if my queens were good or whether the other players' resolves would leave them, but I didn't. And that is probably why I got punished.

What's your guess on UTG+1's hand? 99? Ah9h? I obviously don't know..

A9 seems like the logical hand.

After your raise gets called on the flop you might as well dump this hand. There are no real draws, he's got an Ace with a weak kicker and there's no way you're getting him to fold. I do this same thing all the time, overplaying my KK/QQ after an Ace flops and it's a huge leak. Yes they're muppets for calling raises with Ax but that doesn't justify us paying them off... now if I could only follow my own advice...

To continue with the hand, I raise more on the flop and then check the turn if called. No need to waste that $30. He either has an ace he is unlikely to dump, a set which he is trapping or is a muppet and might let you get to showdown free.
