Folded KK

Postby Soul » Thu Jul 28, 2005 6:13 am

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (8 handed)

saw flop|saw showdown

BB ($29.80)
UTG ($114.15)
Hero ($94.50)
MP1 ($109.90)
MP2 ($96.70)
CO ($100)
Button ($28.50)
SB ($34.75)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with [Kc], [Kh].
1 fold, Hero raises to $3, MP1 raises to $5, MP2 calls $5, 4 folds, Hero calls $2.

Flop: ($16.50) [8d], [Qc], [8s] (3 players)
Hero checks, MP1 bets $17, MP2 raises to $34, Hero folds

At this point I figure at least one of them has AA (or QQ) so I'm not willing to put my stack in with just an overpair in this particular situation.

What would you do?

Easy fold there, there's no hand i can think of that you've got beat when they're betting like that..

you played it right, imo. Good strong raise with the kings, pretty easy call for the extra 2 bucks, then when the flop looked that bad, it was a solid laydown. nice job.

You could be up against AK for MP1 that follows through on the flop and AQ from mp2 but that is unlikely. One of them is very likely to have you beat so just fold and wait.

i probably reraise preflop, with a serious willingness to go all-in if necessary. with AA + KK with a normal stack size....i dont want to play the hand to the end necessarily. i think you can get it all-in before the flop. if you run into AA, that sucks...but for every time that happens, you'll have five times where you catch someone on QQ, AK, or something stupid.

Thanks for all the replies. MP2 took down the pot uncontested and showed pocket rockets in the hole. It seems most of you consider it ok to check/fold in this type of situation.

Some replies has commented on my pfr of $3. I pretty much have a standard raise no matter what kind of hand I have in order to mask what I really have. If there are alot of limpers I usually add on a buck or two accordingly. That beeing said, on the table in question raising more then $3 would usually win you the blinds, and as I said I pretty much keep to one amount. I can't start betting 4$ when I have KK and 5$ if i have AA.

Also, I got a bad feeling that one of them had AA already at the preflop stage. This time I went with my gut and I don't regret it.

I agree with the absolute need to reraise preflop to at least $15...if you get reraised again then you can make your decision about whether they'd do that with anything but AA and act based on that...the preflop call was the big mistake, I think...same with checking on that flop.

If I was going to have a "constant" preflop raise amount. It would be $5..not $3.
