TPTK on scary flop -> Trips -> Tough decision

Postby shobute » Wed Jul 27, 2005 2:54 pm

Hi,

Still having a lot of trouble figuring out how to play this hand.

Pacific NL100, loose table.
Villain in early-middle position and has my $60 covered.
I'm new to the table.

At CO I have Ac9c.
Villain raises to $3, one caller, I ride along, all others fold.

Flop 3d, 2d, 9d.
Villain leads out with $4, one fold, I call.

Turn 9h.
Villain pushes for my remaining $50.
Hero ...?

Would appreciate some advice here...

Thanks!

Call.

Most likely he's got an over-pair, with or without a diamond, and he's looking to chase you off the flush draw. It's also possible he's got something like AK with one of the cards in suit. If he had the flush he would play it slower I think.

I think you should have folded preflop though. Playing Ax to a raise is a losing proposition in the long run I think.

I agree fold to that raise pre-flop

i think he has a big pair with one of the suit, QQ maybe

I think you are ahead and can call but it won't be an easy call

The justifaction for the call was that the EP raiser was extremely loose and seemed to be willing to lose their entire stack on a stupid play...so he called with A9s, which we knew was slightly weak, but the implied odds were so huge.

call, you are probably ahead here a majority of the time, and if not may have more outs than you thought.

Call. That was the card you are looking for by calling the flop.
If you don't fold the best hand every once in awhile, you're probably not playing your best poker

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

And yes, I would normally fold this PF.
The table seemed to warrant the call because of an enormous payoff if I hit.

In any case, I called him and he showed Qd5d.
Nothing paired and I was down my buyin.
