Hey all. Played this hand in my last session, a PL .25-.25 game at Pokerroom (not the massive stakes most of you are used to, but I'd appretiate any insight you have). I'm Das w00t in the game, my read on Philbin is that he's an idiot, just playing all wrong. The one thing I may have done wrong in my mind is my flop bet. A tad low? I had basically nothing, so was just trying to feel him out. Sorry, I can't get the converter to work:

Philbin shows Ace-5. Hit his two pair on the river, topping my ace with king kicker. Did I screw this one up?

I think you have a basic flaw in your thinking (don't take this wrong!). It's not the final result that matters but how you played the hand. Obviously here you got your money in as a huge favorite and he hit his 7-outer on the river so you did nothing wrong. if you play this hand the same way 100 times you'll end up winning about 84 of them or so, so in the long run you will make a profit. This is what is important, not whether you win the particular hand at that particular time.

If you have 72 and call an all-in from someone with AA, flop comes 777 and you win it, did you do the right thing calling?

I can't tell, so I'll ask. Was your flop bet the size of the pot? If it was I think your play was fine in this hand. Like Stone said, it's not the result of the hand, it's how you played it. You said this guy was a bad player and you got him to go all-in with a 3 outter. Sounds like a good play to me.

my flop bet (when I had nothing, and was just testing the waters) was around a 30% of the pot. My turn bet was a pot raise. Thanks for the input guys. What Stoneburg said was basically what I was thinking, but its nice to have some more experienced minds backing me up

oh, and as it turned out, I didn't let this hand put me on tilt, and ended up taking all my money back off the guy

First off, it doesn't matter what limits you play, we'll take it into account and do our best to give good advice so don't worry about that.

Second, I would make my preflop raise at least 4x the BB or $1.

Third, If you are gonna bet the flop, I would make it at least 3/4 the pot and keep this consistent whether you hit the flop or not. The pot was 1.75 so I would have bet 1.50 or if you raised to $1 preflop, I would bet $2. On the turn, with the increased betting of the flop, I would put him all in as that would be a standard bet at that stage.

Fourth, I agree with stoneburg. Overall, you played it right so you can't think you played it wrong just because you lost this time.
