What do you do w/ this set in an unraised pot ?

Postby DaHitDogg » Mon Jul 18, 2005 7:48 pm

Couldn't get the converter to work for some reason...Big blind is a solid player, LP is terrible and chases draws like there's no tomorrow.

Full Party table $1/$2 blinds
LP has $100, BB has full stack, I have both covered

folded to LP who limps, I limp on the button w/ 3h 3c, Big blind checks

Flop is 7s 3s Td

Big blind checks, LP bets $9, I raise to $30, big blind flat calls ????
LP pushes all-in for $90 --- What should I do here ?

I know Ice says never to fold sets but... shesh.

With the flush draw, BB *should* be protecting his hand if he has a set (definetely with an over-pair)... but often people don't, especially top set. If LP really is "terrible" he could also have AA. So I guess AA, T7 and 98s are the hands you beat.

BB is the one to worry about. Since LP is passive and there's a flush draw, it's unlikely he was planning to CR some over-pair, besides, if he's solid he should be able to dump any overpair that isn't worth a raise from the BB when there's a bet and a raise to him. There's really only two hands he should be able to have, TT and 98s.

At least one of them really should have TT or 77. Maybe you should just cut your losses. Best case scenario is AA and 98s. Worst case, you're playing for your stack with 1 out.

Im not folding a set here. AT I'll fold in a heartbeat, but Im not folding a set. You very well could up against a higher set, but there are just too many people who overplay TPTK or worse.

I would flat call and get the rest in on the turn no matter what hits.

Youre going to lose setover set every now and then but youllalso win set over set the same amount of times. If you fold a set fearing a higher set, then you'll miss out on alot of huge pots.
