General consensus on big drawing hands

Postby stealthtt385 » Sun Jul 17, 2005 7:37 pm

These question might seem a little basic for some, but I would like some input on how to play big drawing hands.

Edit: For simplicity lets say everyone invloved either has a full or above full stack.

Hand #1
Hero MP2 (random position) is dealt A[s]Q[s] raises 4bb
2 callers

Flop
6[s]9[s]J[d]

MP1 bets the pot
Hero.......

How would you generally play two over cards and the nut flush draw? I don't like smooth calling because I would probably chicken out on the turn if I missed. I don't like raising all in because if a player calls they most likley have a set and I am drawing to flush cards.

Hand #2
Hero SB is dealt 7[d]9[d]
4 callers

Flop
6[d]8[d]K[c]
hero...

I flop an open ended straight flush. If I was in the SB with this flop, would a check raise be pretty standard, and if so how much? Should I lead out and bet? Also if I was in LP facing a bet, how would I proceed?

Hand #3
Hero BB is dealt A[s]7[s]
4 callers
Flop
7[d]8[s]K[s]

Here I have a pair with the nut flush draw. This is a hand that I played the other day. I bet $2.25 from the BB and the CO raised to $10. I thought about it for a minute, then pushed all in. CO called with K[d]Q[h], and I rivered another 7 for the win. He freaked out even though I was a slight favorite here.

After thinking about it I didn't really like how I played this hand. He could have had two pair, trips or AK (unlikley since he didn't raise PF) How could I have played it differently? Should I have folded to his raise?

Thanks

Hand #1) I would normally raise and then check behind on the turn if I didnt improve. Actually I might check behind even if I hit the A or Q

Hand #2) From SB I normally bet pot and if I get raised and its heads up, I reraise. I dont mine reraising all in here. If there is a caller to the bet and raise, I have to think more about if and probably just call. Anyone who calls a pot bet AND healthy raise probably isnt folding if you push.

From LP, if its heads up, I raise. If its multiway I normally just call but might raise if I think I can get a bigger flush draw out.

Hand #3) I like the all in on this hand. I dont like it as much if the pair you have to go with your flush draw if a pair of aces. The way it is here, the other 3 aces could be outs since he probably doesnt have AK. Only a fool calls that all in with KQ.

VERY good questions, and very interesting answers from Ice.

Can I extend part of the question?

Hand #2, with [9d][7d] hitting [8d][6d][Kc]. You lead out full pot from the SB and get called in one place. The turn is a blank, say [3h]. What now?

Player and stack size dependant.
