Count the errors....

Postby Tordan » Sun Jul 17, 2005 1:41 pm

Greetings.
I am a break even player.
Here is a hand that I recently played badly. I count 3 or 4 serious errors.

Party Poker $25 nl (10 handed 1 out = 9 handed)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with [As], [Tc].
5 folds, BB checks.
Hero limps in with everyone else. (first mistake? prob shouldn't play ATo at all, but...)

Flop: [Td], [5s], [8c] (4 players)
BB checks
Hero bets $2 (first serious mistake i think, should have bet bigger?)
MP2 folds
Villan calls
BB folds.

Turn: [7s] (2 players)
Hero bets $2 (now an even bigger mistake)
Villan calls

River: [Kc] (2 players)
Hero checks. (oops there is the damn overcard i let him fish for.)
Villan bets $4
Hero (like an idiot) calls (truly dumb yes?)

Final Pot:
Hero has [As] [Tc] (one pair, tens).
MP3 has [Ks] [8s] (two pair, kings and eights).
Rake $0.85
Pot $16.25

Now please yell at me so I learn to stop doing that.
Thank you.

I think the flop bet is fine,

The turn bet smells of a weak bet, but with a draw heavy board you either have to check here or bet stornger, I think

the river isn't good, but there isn;t much you can do there, but lay it down

I really don't like the preflop call. That and your turn bet is weak; blast that turn so if he is drawing he'll pay. If he already has it well... TPTK is a hand I like to play aggressively by all means. On a draw heavy board you bet strong; you can usually find out where you stand in the hand by their actions. I think his call on the turn looks like he is drawing to me and a K on the river doesn't really scare me there, yet I guess you have to add in that your at a 25NL table and K8s is a monster hand. I think your play is fine (except dump that preflop) but you gotta blast that turn. I advocate being real aggressive on the turn and this is another situation where it would be correct. Let him call a pot sized bet being a 2 1/3 : 1 dog.

trodgers you said you would either check or btp? I am quite interested on which you would actually choose. If the player is a cs like this one or a showdown muppet i think you have to check there. But if I have no reads; I will bet that 95% of the time
