2/4 top set on a scary board

Postby Stelvask » Tue Jul 12, 2005 11:46 am

BB is decent at worst, good at best. he has a VP$IP of 22%, PFR% of 10, and a post flop aggression factor of 2.86.

Anyone play this hand differently?

Hero ($818.15)
UTG+1 ($902.30)

MP2 ($838)
CO ($422.90)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with [9s], [9c].
Hero calls $4, 1 fold, MP1 calls $4, MP2 calls $4, 3 folds, BB checks.

Flop: ($18) [6h], [9h], [5h] (4 players)

Turn: ($90) [4c] (2 players)

This is a tough one, but I think I would have laid it down on the Turn. With Villan in the BB he could have just about anything including 78, or any 2 hearts. On the turn you are getting just over 2-1 on your money with one card left to try to make the boat. Granted your trips may be best, but there are better times for me to put that much money in the pot.

One of the things that I am still struggling with is trying to get away from trips when I am beat. I don't know if I could have laid it down in the heat of the moment, but looking at it now, I think I would have folded.

Fold? No way.

Very few people check raise a flopped flush. Its mush more likely that he has 2 pair or a lower set.
The way you played it is fine, but I mightve raised the river. I think you have the winner,

I don't want to get all in with sets on a 3-flush board, but I don't lay it down. I have won a huge majority of these cases. It's posible that you are beat, but I would go with it.

If so, wouldn't it be better to push on the flop?

I would not raise that river...Opponent has showed too much aggression for my taste.

I'm fine with just calling that down....but would not be surprised to be shown a flush on the river.

well, he had 87 (no hearts) and flopped a straight.

personally, i kinda suprised that he still value bet this river, as i could easily have something like [Kh][Qh].

Of course, if i had gone with ices advice and raised this river, i might have gotten him to fold.

Oh well.

The good news is, i'm having the best day i've had in a month. My losing streak had continued up until a few days ago.

I've recovered 2k of it in the last 3 or 4 days, so i'm feeling pretty good.
