I haven't got alot of NL ring experience, so it's hard for me to analyze this hand. Even though I won the hand, I felt like my play was a bit out of line. I didn't feel comfortable at all pot betting the turn. Would you mind giving me an advice or two? Thanks.

I didn't like the turn card because of the flush draw, I might add. Am I just being paranoid here? I have no clue.

well it depends on your read on the player. Is he the type to min raise with a flush draw? Most just call with it so I might go for a check raise on the turn. Betting out will get the flush to go all in anyway and weaker hands to fold, even a smaller set might want to fold to that. By check raising, you get him to put money in the pot while betting out just gets him to fold. Your only worry is if the river is another spade.

Well, my read on the guy was that he was a typical tight-weak player. I wanted to protect my hand from a flush draw on the flop. His min raise didn't give me any information. When a Q hit the turn I made it $15 to go without thinking it through (that's a problem I have, I'm working on it).

So... suppose I check the turn and he puts in $15. Now what?

What if he was on a runner-runner flush draw with a pair or something. Should I really offer him a free card then?

I bet the turn... Like Briachek said, most people don't raise the flop w/ just a draw, so I'm not as worried about the flush... What I'm really afraid of here is him playing something like 8, and if I check the turn, he's gonna check back, not sure if his TPTK is good, and wanting a free shot at his nut flush... I'm betting the turn like you do, and would play the river carefully if he calls, maybe check/calling hoping for a bluff, and would basically be done w/ the hand if another spade hits...

Personally, I think he either had A8 or some weird 2pr hand...

I would check the turn and call a reasonable bet. By betting you're just getting more commited to the hand. He can't raise you if you check to him. The power of position makes me slow down with this hand.

also, on another note, I raise it to at least $2 preflop every time. Raising it just $1 isn't enough.

I'm surprised so many advocate a check on the turn, I think you're right to bet. If another spade falls on the river your hand is essentially worthless so you can't give a free card. I check the river though.
