bad laydown?

Postby stoiter » Sat Jul 02, 2005 2:42 am

ok this was a hand from today that felt very similar to ice's top two thread..
except i dont think my hand was as strong. but im still not sure whether it was a good laydown..

according to PT there were 2 maniacs, 3 fish, and 2 calling stations at the table.. hence why i was limping hands like gapped connecters in hopes of pulling a big pot with a lucky flop.

MsCleo had a vpip of over %60 after 30 hands and was one of the aforementioned maniacs..

so $17 into an $8 pot... with a raise and a reraise in front i figure villian has to have the goods... maybe 22, 55, 33 or A4 sooted for the straight..

but then i kept looking at the little maniac icon and was thinking.. youve been looking for a hand like this and here it is..

ackk... the very next hand i lost my stack with KK vs AA!
ahhh the fun of poker!

Well, the pot was $8. To make a "pot sized raise", MsCleo has to 1st call $4 (making the pot now ) $12 and then raise the pot. So the total raise is $12+$4 or $16.

So the raise isnt all that big. Its $1 more than a pot sized raise which is a nice raise actually. A pot sized bet or raise gives the next caller 2-1 odds. Most people bet and raise that much which is one reason why they lose.

Thats a good raise here with a set because there is a flush draw there now. If she only raised to $10 and one guy called, then you would have good odds to chase a flush.

Not too mention that you raised so you have a good hand and probably wont fold so she wants to get you all in quickly.

Good fold.

I have been reading Ice posts for about 3.5 months and I just cant start thinking like him. I hate myself sometimes. The hand analisys is great, and I NOW think it was a great laydown. I would have never folded that hand, but I have to accept that it was the correct move.

This is why my W$SD is only 52%. At least I know my leaks... I know thatwill improve.

Its possible that 2 low pair is the best hand, but MsCleo is last to act. Most people dont check that flop with a Q. If he/she did have a queen, he probably would just call the bet and raise.

It looks like a set to me. Or A4
