fwiw, i played a very similar hand yesterday. villain was a calling station rather than a lagtard.
200nlo8
pf - 5 limpers
flop - i bet flop with a decent low draw and a double gutter. 2 callers with one being a donating cs.
turn - i hit the 2nd nut str8 with no made low (yet) and a janky fl draw. i bet pot, cs pushes for a huge overbet, one fold, and i call.
i had a lot of notes on this cs, and one of the notes was that he loves any str8. i figured i was either beat but had redraws or i was on a massive freeroll. it turned out that he had the nuts with a better fl draw, i missed my draws and got scooped.
i actually questioned my play on this hand, but ultimately i like my decision. i theoretically could have folded on the basis that calling stations rarely overbet the pot without the nuts, but he would have to have a massive hand (nuts + redraws) every time for me to be a significant $ev dog against his range on the call. at that point, the decision becomes more of a metagame decision (e.g., do you need to show down a biggish hand, are you up and need to keep them down, can you induce overconfidence in villain, etc.). in my case, i was getting pushed around a little bit, and i needed to show down a hand, so i really like my play. the villain loosened up AND loosened up the table, so the game got a lot better. i won about 1/4 of a stack back, but i got A LOT of action on my big hands after that (unfortunately i split with all of my 2-way monsters).
i guess the cliff notes version is that i'm not afraid to give action to those i get it back from. you can't get carried away with that concept, but it's not a bad stance to take in moderation.
