KK--My Worst Pocket Pair

Postby T-Rod » Thu Jun 23, 2005 9:09 am

Strangely, KK is a big loser for me (over 35,000 hands). Its rated as my worst pocket pair. I basically play it like AA in terms of pfr (which is big--no limpers allowed). If I am an overpair to the board, I am ALWAYS betting the pot. Slowplaying is not really my style so i bet strong even at a ragged board (and this gives more legitimacy to my steal attempts later). If an A falls, I fold probably 1/2 of the time if another is showing strength (I wouldn't fold if I thought he was too loose or played lots of 2nd/3rd pairs). Not sure where my leak is. I win small pots frequently, and lose some monsters rarely. AA is a HUGE winner for me which I play about the same way. I'm at 6-max tables exclusively.

Question... how do you play KK, generally?

Question.. if you use PT, what is your winning percentage with KK? What is your W$at SD with KK.

Tim

Funny side note--I read the KK in BB article and yesterday I had almost the same thing. I was over pair, board paired, i called all in on the river. Guy had top pair on board and made two pair on river (calling my pot bets all the way). Variance I guess.

My winning percentage with KK is 89%
W$ at SD is 80.2%

Total win rate is 5.91 PTBBs. This is a little higher than AA for me.

Some of my very biggest KK pots are when I limp in. If it gets raised, I reraise of course, unless Im really trying to get tricky. If it doesnt get raised, I play it like TPTK.

If you raise to $8 or $10 ($1/$2 blinds) every time, youre going to win the other guys $8 or $10 plus the blinds alot of the time. The big pots are usually because the other guy is a clown...or you played it differently.

Example:

I limped [Ks][Kd] UTG+2. 2 more LP limpers and both blinds play. No raise..Blah
Pot is $10. Flop comes [7c][Jc][2s]. SB bets $6. BB folds. I raise to $18 and only SB calls. The SB is not very good, but its obvious he thinks he is. he makes a lot of unorthodox plays which he probably thinks is "mixing up his game", but hes not good at it. He started the hand with $210 and I had him covered.

Pot is now $46 The turn is the [Kh]. He leads for $20. Hmmm, the stop and go huh? Hes been reading some books. So have I. "Im all in"

I shove it all in so its $170 to him with a pot of about $255 or so. He calls with [Kc][3c]. Dumb Dumb Dumb. The river is the [7d]. I win.

This is how you get monster pots with KK. If I had raise to $10 preflop, I probably wouldve stolen the blinds.

Now, it may be more dangerous to limp in 6 max, Im not sure, but you might try it and see how you like it. Just remember that you need to me able to lay it down to heavy action if the pot is unraised, especially if the action comes form a blind who could have anything.

KK is by far my biggest winner all categories. Both BB/Hand and Net, even though I've gotten AA far more often.

PTBB/Hand: 7.57
Win%: 79.27

This is over 82 hands where I have had KK. However, I play full table exclusively so I don't think my advice would be very relavant.

There are a couple variations but basically its when someone calls your raise and then leads into you again.

I like the idea of limping a bit and traping those that think they have TPTK and playing my hand like TPTK.

I'm ready to try something different since I am consistently winning tiny pots and losing monsters.

Thanks ICE
