Is there any way I could have known.......

Postby SPhilly » Wed Jun 22, 2005 7:04 pm

I actually did not feel bad after this play (should I ?). My question to the more experienced out ther is.. was there any way I could have avoided losing allot of chips here (besides the obvious not calling pf)? I called only because the original raiser was very LA and with the second caller in the pot I felt my upside was worth a call. After that....

Don't know what I'm doing wrong with conveter but it should read:

UTG+1 checks. Hero checks. MP2 bets
$5.40. UTG+1 calls. Hero goes all-in for
$20.20. MP2 goes all-in for $14.80. UTG+1 goes all-in for $16.
Hero is returned $4.20
(uncalled).

Pot = 52.20

Set over set, nothing to do but push your money in, this only happens like once in every 5000 hands, I wouldn't worry about it.

The only way to get away would be to fold it preflop. The raise preflop is a little too big for me to want to call with a low PP, but on the other hand you have another caller and you're closing the betting. On the flop there is no way to fold middle set there. I'd bet into the preflop raiser though.

This is no bigger believer in calling raises with any pair than I am, but I will not call a raise that big. Its not that the raise is so big but its 10% of his stack.

I used to call raises that big, but I now want his stack to be bigger. When you call a raise of 10% of his stack, you need to stack him almost every time you hit a set. It just wont happen.

With this flop if he has AK, AQ...youre not stacking him.
If he is very good and has AA, youre not stacking him
If he has TT, your dead in the water and need to stack him to make even MORE next time you call with a pair.

If the flop is A74 and he has KK, youre not stacking him.

It just wont happen often enough to call a raise of 10% of his stack.

But to answer your question....once you call...you are playing for your stack no matter what he tries to represent of has.
