Overpair and a scary river......

Postby AlexMR » Mon Jun 20, 2005 9:18 pm

Party Poker 0.25BB NL.

No reads. I had been on the table for 10 hands and they all seem to be playing very ABC poker. I have $22 in front of me.

I was in the button and was dealt [Kc],[Ks]. It was folded to the MP1($29) who min raised to 0.5. LP1 ($22) Called and CO ($20) called. I raised to $1.5. MP1 and CO called.

FLOP {[Jd], [8d], [3c]}. Pot $4.75

It was checked to me and I bet $3.5. Both called.

Turn. [4s]. Pot is 14.75 and I bet 10. MP1 folds and CO calls (he only have about 4dollars left).

River . [2d] Hate it!!! but CO checks! and I checked behind him :?

He had [As], [Jc] and I took the pot.

My question is: Should I have pushed the turn?

I was in the very common situation where you want them to call but dont want to give them odds. I felt he might fold if I pushed, since he had to call all in, but probably he would have called 15 if he called 10, right?

When he checked, would you have check behind him? Now I think I was weak because if he hit the flush he would have pushed, but since I thought he was chasing it i checked without thinking about it. I was in autocheck mode.

What do you think?

I don't see anything wrong with the check, I do that a lot too with just a pair, but with only 4 bucks left, you might want to put him in anyways, it's not like he's going to come over the top of you. I guess it's really how comfortable you feel on your read, you felt pretty sure he was drawing to the flush, so why bet if you think you're beat? The pot seemed big enough anyways.

Pushing the turn depends on how much the other guy had left (the one who folded)

On the river.....do you really think a guy would call you down with a flush draw...hit it...and then check to you when he has only $4 left? No reason to check behind. Its only $4, but every $4 mistake adds up.

When you eat lunch tomorrow, remember, it could have been paid for by the dude with AJ instead of you.

There's no way in hell he checks if he was chasing all that way... I would've bet a little more on the turn, in case MP1 was chasing...

On the river, think of it this way... Even if he DID have the flush or something that beats you (which is doubtful), it's only gonna cost you another $4 either way...
