ABC ?

Postby rush » Mon Jun 20, 2005 7:15 am

I'm a true newbie - very impressed with all I see posted here.

Question - what does "ABC"-NL play mean? What basic style of play is that - what to do after opening preflop, what to open with etc?

Hoping to start out NL play being an ordinary "ABC"-fellow before finding my own style.

Thanks in advance,

rush

Have you read the NL chapter in SuperSystem? That's a "must read" imo.

You really can't follow it to the letter, but that's the foundation. Then you can see how to adjust certain things according to what's working for you.

Basically, ABC, as I see it, is just making straightforward and correct plays all the way. That is indeed the first thing to learn, and one generally needs good reasons to depart from that, I think.

I always thought of ABC as playing the cards and not the player, but yeah, SS is definitly a great place to start, the NL section is pretty dead on, I think I've read it about a dozen times, plus the bios about all the players are a pretty good read too and give a lot of background on the history of poker. I haven't read the NL section of SS2, does anyone know if there is anything new, or is it just a rehash of the first one? (I did read the limit section, JH has some amazing insights)

I don't have SS2 but am told that the NL section is unchanged (would also be interested in hearing about it if that info is incorrect).

Yes, it is unchanged except for a new intro that basically tells you it's unchanged. Which is a bummer b/c I bought the book for some more NL insight. Caro's chapter is new and has some useful nuggets though. I hear the limit section is awesome in SS2 but I haven't read it as I don't play too much limit anymore.
