Calvin and Hobbes

The strip has been talked about occasionally on here (in my journal and Kenny's journal mainly), but there has never actually been a thread dedicated solely to the strip, as far as I know.

The purpose of this thread is for people who like the strip to post. Possibly some reasons why they like it, and a favorite strip would be great. Perhaps we can make some fans out of people who haven't really been introduced to the strip.

I used to read Garfield strips a lot when I was quite young. My family went to the beach a lot and on 4-6 hour car drive destination vacations. I was never that into novels so I just sorta read lots of Garfield.

One year a friend of my brother suggested he buy me a Calvin & Hobbes book for my birthday. I was hooked after 2 strips. Here are the first 2:

For fan's that would like to take part and post a favorite, here is a great resource:

Search for your favorite, get the date, plug it into the http://picayune.uclick.com/comics/ch/19YY/chYYMMDD.gif address, and boom, you've got your strip.

Here is one of the two I have framed, and am eager to get around to actually hanging up (my new apartment is gonna be about 12x as nice as this one).

Calvin and Hobbes is awesome. I used to read it everyday in high school with my morning breakfast. It has been a while since i read that portion of the newspaper.

I got a good coffee table book of a bunch of the comics.

As for a favorite I have no idea but I like the one you have framed Xas. And this one made me chuckle again.

For those interested, I have given 2 lectures on "Philosophy in Calvin and Hobbes" which was VERY well received.

Fight Club
The Return of Hobbes
Hobbes is reborn as Tyler to save "Jack" (a grown-up Calvin) from the slough of un-comic despair.

I read Calvin and Hobbes for years after it came out. I used to have a few favorites I read like every day as a kid. Calvin and Hobbes was one, Beetle Bailey, Hagar the Horrible, Ziggy (but htat was hit or miss), Peanuts, Garfield. Thise were basically my "got to's" as a kid. Hard to pinpoint a favorite, I don't have the books so even the ones I see are few and far between. Found this one was considering putting it in my signature but I dunno. Probably take up too much room, but good for a poker forum.

Xas - I has always more or less ignored it before but I think that strip has a lot of charm; thanks to your constant carping about it, I think I'm now a convert :)

Reading through the 1993 strips here's a couple I particularly liked.

And here is the other one I have framed, I couldn't find it on the website and just happened upon it today while reading through 1993.

I put this one in one of those cheap plastic frames that stands by itself on a desk.
