Stars is 9max and Party is 10max, am i going to need to adjust my play/strategy at all? is there any difference between 9 and 10 max?

You dont need to adjust at all. 10 players favors the tight players slightly because they pay less in blinds as they fold waiting for the right hand to play.

redlands... like Ice said, it's basically the same, but you'll save a few bucks not having to pay the blinds as often... BUT, I think you DEFINITELY have to adjust your play some... It's a completely different animal, Stars as opposed to Party...

care to elborate on this a little more ice? how should redlands (or myself) plan to adjust our play when moving over to stars?

In limited experience Party is a lot wilder/aggressive/loose than Stars. Stars games between 100NL and 1000NL are almost always full of weak-tight players. That's why a good LAG can make a killing. On Party I think you almost always need to be a TAG at least in full-ring. I'm sure there are others more qualified to speak on this since I have very limited ring game experience at Party.

Dont bluff at Party. You can bluff raise at Stars because everyone is so damned tight. Thats why I left Stars. Im so damned tight also and it was a rock garden at that time.

I agree... you can push people around a little at Stars... They'll fold MUCH more easily... At Party, they're just as likely to call your allin w/ the nuts as Ace high... When I play at Party, I really don't bluff at all...

thanks a ton guys, not bluffing would have been a hard lession to learn on my own, not to mention a costly one, as i have won some decent sized pots on stars by semi-bluffing a turn and bluffing a missed river. ill keep you guys updated on how it goes.

It has been said but: Bluff less / dont bluff at all. Also less semibluffing I think.

And perhaps raise less preflop. You get more callers and it is more difficult to win the pot unimproved on flop.

The books say that you should play tight on loose tables and loose on tight tables. You should play more tight at party, but dont think too much about that. It will happen automaticly.

But still, it's not too different worlds. There are good, bad, loose and tight players on both sites.

ok, so i played for maybe 30min last night, 141 total hands, im up $104 (just over two buyins). I couldnt believe some of the hands i got paid off on. for instance.

[Kd] in MP, one limp to me, i raise to $2.50, button reraises to $10, now, normally id muck this hand right here as this guy is representing AA, or maybe KK, but, thanks to PT, ive already seen this guy play TT, JJ, and QQ from LP like this, so i decide that if hes got AA this time ill pay him off, so i push and he insta calls off his last $32.90, which kinda scares me. Board goes [As][Ts][6h][Jh] and i drag a $95 pot against his QQ

the other hand i dont think i should have been paid off on was [Qs] in the CO, two limps to me, i raise to $3, the SB barely reraises me to $6, im the only caller, Flop comes [Qd][4d], he leads out for $9, i raise to $25 expecting to take it down right there, but he calls, turn brings the , he checks, i push my last $12 in and he calls, river brings a and he mucks [Ks] and i drag a $85 pot

im really not sure how i got paid on my QQ hand, but if they wanna keep giving me thier money, ill take it

Hey redlands! I think I ran into you on Stars a while back. So far Stars has been kicking my arse and I'm looking to move to a fishbowl myself. It seems to me that when I have a great hand I can't get anyone on the planet to put in another chip and when I have a so-so hand all the fish come out to feed and take my money with garbage.

QQ OTB, MP raises to $5, I want to test the waters for AA or KK so I raise to $15 and he quickly calls the $10. Flop is rags with 2 clubs. He checks to me and I bet the pot - he calls. Turn is another rag, all under 9. I think about getting allin but I figure he has KK as often as JJ here so I make a mistake and check the turn. The river is another club and he bets ~$20 and I have to call. I type in "you got me" before the call expecting to see KK and he shows AQs for the flush. Great, $10 preflop raise on AQs. I outplayed myself here by giving this douche too much credit and it cost me.

Anyway, my point is I'm looking for a new spot to play as well so GL to both of us.
