Yeah a read would be great here, but I don't have one. I have no idea if he's capable of realizing that's a great card to shove a draw with.

Yes it is a good spot to bluff with a draw. Power of position.

Is check/calling better than bet/calling?

87/86 should raise the flop (and any set obviously), and I have TT which cuts out half the 8T combinations. In fact the only suited 8T he can have would be [Th]. I just don't see how he can have many 8's here.
