6-max hand - I HATE this spot...wwyd?

Postby HopyMSU » Sat May 28, 2005 6:48 am

This is my least favorite spot to be in...and unfortunately, I seem to be in it occasionally despite hating it! Raise PF, 6-max, with TT get 4 callers, have an over flop and no one shows aggression but ONE player in EP just smooth calls...do I bet the turn? Do I check the turn and let him bluff the river (or catch the river?). AHHH! What would you do and why?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $2 BB (6 max, 6 handed)

CO ($89)
Button ($321.15)
SB ($278.05)
BB ($117.07)
Hopy ($205.05)
MP ($296.35)

Preflop: Hopy is UTG with [Tc], [Ts]. SB posts a blind of $1.
Hopy raises to $8, 1 fold, CO calls $8, Button calls $8, 1 fold, BB calls $6.

Flop: ($33) [4h], [Qs], [2h] (4 players)
BB checks, Hopy bets $25, CO folds, Button folds, BB calls $25.

Turn: ($83) [3s] (2 players)
BB checks, Hopy ???

Results to follow.

Ugh... I hate that spot too and play their tendencies over my hand.

If they are a chronic flush chaser I bet again about 1/2 pot.

If they will call me down with AQ, QJ KQ, I shut it down.

No read I shut it down and hope to get to a cheap/free showdown.

There is no "good" way to play it with out a read and knowing their tendencies. If they are a semi-aggressive player and will bet the draw at the turn if you check to them, I lead every time and hope I'm not beat.

If I'm making poor choices and feel like I'm losing too much money in marginal situations by misinterpreting the information given I surrender at the flop and wait for a better spot. I'm having to settle down and play cards right now :(

I agree with rdale. Charge him something if he's a constant drawer and passive player, so if he raises you, you know you are beat. Also, even if he does have the Q and not the flush draw, betting the turn could get him to call and then check the river so you could take the free showdown. If not, he's calling for something like a draw or Q and hope to be able to see the showdown cheaply.

I think I check the flop with three opponents and an overcard. Definitely if there are still two people left to play behind me.

You don't really want to play a big pot with second pair here...

If it gets checked round you can bet the turn. If the button makes a weak bet, you can consider calling.

As played, and without a read, I check behind and probably call a smallish river bet.

Be glad your opponents refuse to fold; if they didn't, you just might go broke.

Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.
