Two Questions though:

1) In your example #1, we'd still raise without a gutshot yes?

2) Isn't it better to float on a lot of YYX boards in position and take it away on the turn? If the flop comes [Jh][3d], for example. Obviously we need to raise flop on [5s][5d], but do on a dry YYX board?

Nice post. The only thing I question is the example of raising the XXY flop. I think most regulars wont believe you and if they have a big pair, they arent folding.

Most people would just flat call with QJ on a JJ6 flop in a raised pot. So if the preflop raiser has a big pair or a J, youre in trouble. If he has AQ, the he will fold, but in that case you couldve just called the flop CB and taken it away on the turn most times.

You're right. But some regulars will believe you, or they won't have the guts to back up their read and play for stacks with an overpair. It's identifying which type of regular is which and making the appropriate play against that will make you the money.

Here's the real beauty of this style of play. You are being selectively aggressive on XXY flops or flops where you can thump his non-connected CB.

This in turn leads people to start to doubt that you have a hand as you do this repeatedly. You start to lose fold equity against some opponents. That's fine.

Okay, so you've been raising without any real hand, and now you have a real hand. They are more likely to pay you off now as they've seen you raising before and are probalby looking to at least see a showdown with you.

I've gotten rocks to get it in with TPTK against me in this type scenario and its without me having to play crazy LAG/Maniac.
