Ive had a pool for 5 years now. I have a Hayward auto chlorinator that takes the little hockey pucks. This provides a small trickle of stablilzed chlorine.

But for the main portion of my chlorine, the only thing ive ever uesd is standard liquid bleach. Ive never had any algea and my water is crystal clear and always has been.

Check out this website. You should never have to add and "shock", "ph up", "ph down", powder chlorine, "yellow out" or any other of these products that you buy at pool stores. They are overpriced, turn your pool cloudy and do lots of other nasty things to your water.
