hi all,
my band has received a contract for a distribution deal from a record label. it's a pretty cool deal all things considered. i have a question about one phrase that i don't fully understand.
the first text of the contract defines the band as being the 4 of us. it states "(member name 1), (member name 2), (member name 3), (member name 4), individually and collectively professionally known as (band name)."
a subsequent clause in the contract then spells out the label's exclusive distribution rights to all recordings by my band.
here's the problem: we all do other projects as well. and i want to make sure that the label's exclusive distribution rights to my band's material do not extend to my band members' other projects.
i realize that the lawyers on this forum won't actually offer any legal advice. i'm just looking for some kind of unofficial explanation of the above situation.
and yes, we are of course going to run this by our entertainment attorney but we won't be able to do it for like a week or so, and im trying to figure out where things stand now.
thanks,
jon
