Villain is 35/9/2.18 / 31% / 42%.... I only caught him bluffing few times and all of those were after this hand was played. After he tried to bluff me for the 3rd time and I didn't let him, he left the table... So, maybe this was also a miss for him but I called and called and called because 1. I had position and bad experience with JJ today, and this affected my judgment greatly 2. his betting was very strong once the flop came and I wanted to float him on the flop and then see if he will proceed 3. he proceeded on turn and I had now a nice gutshot in addition so I decided to call the turn bet also 4. river might have been a bluff but it was too much for me at that moment.... also, I know I could have re-raised PF but as said, I was partially afraid of my hand.... thoughts?

You need to be the aggressor in poker. It gives you two ways to win. If you just call down, you only win if you've got the best hand. Bet & Raise and you put the pressure on your opponent. Obvious I know, but important to keep in mind.

It's EXTREMELY rare to be in situations where the best play is to passively call all the way. (Bad experience with JJ today not a good reason :) )

1) Yes you have position, but you should still be the aggressor. Position still benefits you if you take the initiative!

2) Don't float to find out wether he'll proceed. If you want to know where you are in the hand, YOU MUST RAISE. Raise his flop bet 3.5 times, and you'll probably take it down. If not you got your answer and can check fold turn.

3) A gutshot is never nice! Unless when you get loose players to chase it when you're ahead! :)

4) Who knows what he's got at this point. Again, that's the reason you have to bet / raise: TO GAIN INFORMATION (quoting Sklansky).

Also, personally I would reraise preflop, but call can be ok as well as long as you make your play on the flop.

Hope you'll find this helpful!

Re-raise PF, that raise is pretty small barely the minimum, pop it to 2.00 and see what happens.

That isn't a bad flop for JJ, I would prefer to raise it here but calling isn't bad. I really hate the "raise to find out where you are" line though.

The turn is where you need to fold, your opponent is betting bigger, usually this isn't a bluff and the river is almost never a bluff unless your opponent is an aggrodonk.
