JJ in the BB. (2/5 live)

Postby kennyg » Sun Apr 29, 2007 2:07 pm

UTG +1 raises to $20. he gets 4 callers for a pot of $100.

I look at [Jh][Jd] in the BB. I raise $125 on top. Loose MP player calls. Button calls.

FLOP$450ish
[8s][5d][2s]

I push for around $350. Loose player folds. Button calls with [Qd][Qc] and I lose.

Is it just me or did he play those queens horribly?

TONS of people don't like reraising JJ/QQ but will call off almost anything w/ them... His play seems pretty standard live idiot...

Live games are much much less aggressive than online games. 75% of all live players that Ive seen wont reraise preflop w/o AA / KK or maybe Ak if its heads up.

Thats one huge reason that live NL games are soooooo much softer than online games.

I wouldn't raise JJ preflop from the small blind. Play for set value, esp out here as people often play big hands very weakly. JJ is no better than the largest medium pair from the SB with a lot of limpers.

Aggression in Vegas live games is a quick way to go busto, I'm afraid. Aggression works, of course, far better than weak/tight, but not when out of position with a bunch of limpers. I've seen way too many times when people check/call the river holding the nuts.

Good players have a very large edge in NL games. Overplaying hands? That's what the bad players do all the time, which is why good players have such an edge.

I'm not nearly the player you are, Kenny, but I didn't like this line much from the start.
