First hand at table, no read on villian.

[Qc] in BB, folds to villian OTB who makes it 16, sb folds, I pop to 48, vililan calls.

Flop: [Jd][3h] Pot 98. I check planning to CRAI, he pretty quickly bets pot, I CRAI...

Thoughts?

I usually don't make plays like this in my first hand at a table, but that's just a personal style/preference. This looks good though.

I also don't like to make such a play without a read. I'd rather call preflop and seee what develops.

I am not a big fan of such a CR AI, you won't make him fold a better hand and he is unlikely to call with a worse hand. All-in-all I don't like it in a vacuum, but I can't find anything bad with this play too.

Hand looks like it plays out itself really, with all them draws out there - flop crai looks to make a fair bit vs bluffs and protect vs draws.. only prob is he probably always calls and wins with JJ-AA.

EDIT: I actually think optimal play here is pretty tricky, basically a kinda maths problem.

By check calling flop your unlikely to get more money when ahead, and risk scare cards.

By crai he only calls when ahead. Someone care to do some maths vs an unkowns pf calling ranges here?

Also xas has a point, I play 200nl and if someone opens to $8 and Im OOP then I'm rr'ing to 28-34, likely 30 to go.

FWIW, this totally tilted him and he 4 bet shoved later over my sb 3 bet with A9o...crushed by my AA.
