Quick Question: Why Odd Amounts on the Internet???

Postby Johnny Hughes » Sat Apr 07, 2007 6:12 am

I have noticed that people have pennies and have $102.75 in front of them.

Where I play, you must bet in $5 amounts. You can't bet $17, must bet $15 or $20. In the college boy game, they bet $19 or $63, which just slows up the game. We have dollar chips since the blind is $2 and $5. I think casinos bet odd dollar amount especially in no limit. If someone has $2 to $4 extra when there is an all in, they keep it and are not allowed to bet it. Are there pennies on the Internet because of the rake??

In a similar vein, I see people playing poker on TV on a hard surface. We always put a blanket on the table and a clean sheet over that. You tie the sheet down to the legs of the table. It makes a semi-soft surface. We have a table that is bigger than any I have seen. It's padded where you can bounce a chip, very important to the bored. Twelve can sit is those adjustable, offiice chairs. It is hard on the dealer, leaning all around. Casino tables are made to fit the dealer and the cramped floor space. I am playing in an old man's game with no rake or dealer. Dealing one hand to all those people and shoving the pot around tires me out.

They are partially there because of the rake. Also because since there aren't real chips, you can sit down with whatever amount you choose and a lot of the time, people will have say $100.53 left in their cashier and decide to put it all on one 200 NL table. These players are generally bad and are the type to lose their money, deposit again, lose it, etc.

Another reason for pennies at the table is split pots.
Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.

I figured it was something like that. It would make it easier to keep a count on your opponents. Thank you. GodLikesRoy.

against weaker players, i think i get called significantly more often when i bet $18.87 compared to when i bet $20. good players obviously see through this but it definitely works against the live ones.
