It would be 20x worse if you were posting content like this on 2+2.
Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

I have been posting a Poker History Series at TwoPlusTwo and the comments have been fantastic. Incredibly positive. All positive. They have led me to believe a book of my poker short pieces would work. I went over there because of you and Mecos.

Now Bluff Magazine and TwoPlusTwo Magazine have asked me to be a regular contributor. Bluff has accepted pieces for the next two issues.

I owe a lot of thanks to Mecos, Beavis, and GodLikeRoy.

Your poker stories are very good. I like them. I would give positive feedback to your stories and enjoy reading them.

That being said, I severely dislike the majority of your posts, as you seem to be a cynical and bitter human being.

Back to the topic on hand - if you ONLY posted poker stories here, you would be seen as a popular poster. Similarly, if you posted your non-poker-story content posts on 2+2, you would be mocked far much more than you seem to be on here.

Sigh.. all i do is make fun of ya when you flame me/others...pretty standard. If you feel wierd as an elderly gentleman whose not gettin the respect he thinks he deserves, well all i can say is you gotta give respect to get respect, age notwithstanding. That seems fair to me. There's a reason that BTP is considered 'friendly' and 'more supportive' etc.etc. than 2p2, and it ain't because we're a bunch of arseholes. I am a pain in the ass obviously, but that's another story.

And yes, i also like most of your poker history things, and roys absolutely right that if you acted on 2p2 the way you do here they'd runya outta town, but you dont. Go try callin them whiners/morons though, and see if it doesnt get followed by 12 pages of 'Fuck JohnnyHughes', etc. Actually, and i hate to admit this, but being myself something of a writer wannabe too, I just had to check out your novel expecting it to be nothing short of execrable, and turns out it isn't bad. A little silly in spots, but hey, thats part of the genre. Even Raymond Chandler was guilty of that sometimes. That part about him cryin in that hotel room came out of nowhere though and is totally gratuitous and contrived- take that shit out of there please please please. If you wanna show emotionalism, you have to give it a better foundation than that. My 2 cents.

Anyways i dno what else to say cept...you accusing the multitudes of whinin seems a bit glass-house-throwing-stonesish..?

I like Johnny a lot and I think he brings something different to the place, even if we had a (slight) disagreement a week or two back. Bygones and all.

For an older guy on the internet I think you're doing just fine, and from my POV that wasn't a daft question to ask.

If I can be critical for a moment, Johnny you do tend to flame (i.e. attack) people sometimes without taking the time to make sure they're a legitimate target (i.e. someone who's personally insulted you, or someone who deserves it). I'm not sure if that's just your way but it is a quick way to make enemies - in mitigation, I think most folks here like you and your writing a lot but one or two take a few liberties with regard to throwing stuff at you - that happens in this forum, because a lot of the folks here know each other well (both within this forum and in real life) and so it's kind of "anything goes" with respect to trash talking sometimes.

As a long-time gambler I'm sure you're apt to see trash talking for what it is and let bygones be bygones - maybe we can all start afresh with no hostility? I for one would be happy to see you keep posting here, so long as everyone can get along. There are a lot of intellectual souls here who would be interested to read some of your memoir-type material as well as your other stuff (I appreciate your comment about brits previously may have been a joke, I'm sorry if I was overwhelmingly offensive in rebuke but I did find it slightly in bad taste, for which I'm sure you'll forgive me) - and people WILL sometimes make jokes at your expense, which happens to everyone here - just rise above it, water off a ducks back etc, and I'm sure you'll find people to be most accomodating - I for one don't want this site to turn into an "Old boys club" where no-one but the regulars gets a fair hearing, and so hopefully you'll continue to post.

Why not also post some material in the forums about poker? There are many posts about no-limit holdem that I'm sure you'd find interesting and worth discussing. Some of the people who may have rubbed you the wrong way (e.g. GodLikeRoy) are actually good poker players who make a good chunk of change from the game.

Let's all get along folks.
