Do you bet the flop after you completely miss it?

Postby Mad Genius » Sat May 07, 2005 5:44 am

What I mean is say you raise with 97s and flop comes J42r and your opponent checks to you. Do you usually bet it? What do you think about before deciding to bet or check? Are you more inclined to bet if you have any sort of draw, even if it's a gutshot or a backdoor flush draw?

If you check and the turn hits a blank, will you then bet if your opponent checks to you again?

I don't think the raise is bad in principle, but only if there's a good reason to mix it up a bit. If you can't bet out the flop in position with a check to you, then the raise was clearly not a very good idea.

My only real objection to this whole thing is raising "regularly" with any playable hand. The whole betting sequence is good imo only if you're having trouble getting action.
