I've done this with non-ITMS podcasts without any problem...
Did you download the actual .mp3 file and import it, or did you subscribe to the podcast and let iTunes download it for you (into the Podcasts directory)?
Advanced --> Subscribe to Podcast... Enter the podcast URL and iTunes should take care of the rest.
