1) Your point is that you're having a problem with such a simple system?
2) One of the options that you can set in the preferences of iTunes is whether to automatically sync iTunes with your iPod. This should NEVER be selected...this is what erases your ipod when you connect it to the computer if iTunes is different from what's on your iPod (if iTunes is blank, it erases the whole iPod - though not the disk, IIRC).
4) Duh...they all do that, but you can just unplug it and NOTHING will happen...
