Picking a quit date to gear up for quitting helped me a lot too. I talked about my plans to quit with friends for support as the date got closer. I also had several substitute strategies on paper that i read regularly to divert my attention when faced with cravings. (go for a walk, do sit ups, push ups, drink water, chew gum, etc...)
If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid.
